Spanish scientists have released a study..... drinking before you work out or do exercise is bad for you..... but after.....

Is actually healthy for you. They say that it replenishes fluids faster then water, and the bubbles help quench thirst better as well....

So all of you beer drinkers drink up after a work out apparently its healthier for you......

(I got this off CNN but am in to big of a hurry to look for a link...) And take with a grain of salt.... its from Spanish scientists.

Drinking after exercise will possibly prevent me from stumbling off the treadmill so much.

Thanks for the info, I'll save the beer for after from now on.

It's because of the electrolytes, your body uses the water more efficiently or something... The salts.. With a low electrolyte count and a ton of fluid, you can cause slight endema (swelling due to water retention, bloating), or even in severe cases, water toxicity (endema of brain tissue). Craziness I tell ya.

I know huh... they only invented modern neuroscience, modern toxicology, eye glasses, the submarine, endocrinology, pure alcohol, rotary flight....Gees why always so hostile..... I am just looking at it from a realistic level. And I never said they didnt invent anything or discover anything..... if you really feel like arguing for no reason and going that route.....

How many things have we invented and discovered? How many things have other countries discovered? Comparing the countries in that way makes no sense. I wasnt saying anything like that and you know it. That comment was a joke & everyone knows it. Why must you be so wound up and ready to pounce?

And I have nothing wrong with Mexico. I am probably going to go there and get some stem cell treatments because they wont do them in the US. My best bet is going there.

Well...the original posting was about Spanish scientists researching beer. Therefore...Mexico / Spain. Two different nations, both very qualified to do studies and research and have credibility, so I am confused as to why Mexico was even brought up. I mean yes the language is the same but...ok you know where I'm going with this.

Another thing is... I have a hard time descifering people's jokes at times, so that statement you made could have been easily misenterpreted because no one has the same sense of humor.

But yeah - beer after workout equals good.

A pint of beer is better for you after a workout than water, say scientists

Yesterday we were warned of the health dangers associated with alcohol - not to mention bacon, ham and sausages.

Today there is more cheering news from a different set of scientists.

They have come up with the perfect excuse for heading to the pub after a game of football or rugby.

Their research has shown that a glass of beer is far better at rehydrating the body after exercise than water.

Researchers suspect that the sugars, salts and bubbles in a pint may help people absorb fluids more quickly.

The finding, which comes from a study at Granada University in Spain, will be welcome news for the legions of evening and weekend sports enthusiasts who enjoy a postmatch pint.

It will also ease the worries of those still digesting the report from the cancer experts who linked alcohol and other products to an increased risk of some forms of the disease.

Professor Manuel Garzon, of Granada’s medical faculty, made his discovery after tests on 25 students over several months.

They were asked to run on a treadmill under stifling temperatures of 40C (104F) until they were close to exhaustion.

Once they were on the point of giving up, researchers measured their hydration levels, concentrationability and motor skills.

Half were then given two half pints of Spanish lager to drink, while the rest were given water.

Both groups were then allowed to drink as much water as they wanted.

Professor Garzon said the rehydration effect in the students who were given beer was "slightly better" than among those given only water.

He believes the carbon dioxide in beer helps quench the thirst more quickly, while beer’s carbohydrates replace calories lost during physical exertion.

Based on the studies, the researchers have recommended moderate consumption of beer - 500ml a day for men or 250ml for women - as part of an athlete’s diet.

A typical person loses around a litre of water for every hour of exercise in sweat.

People who fail to rehydrate after exercise are more likely to feel tired, fuzzyheaded and suffer headaches.

A spokesman for the Campaign for Real Ale said "moderate levels" of beer had beneficial health effects.

Past studies have shown that sensible drinking of one or two units a day can reduce the risk of heart disease, dementia, diabetes and Parkinson’s disease, he said.

The ingredients of beer - which include malted barley, hops and yeast - are rich sources of vitamins and minerals.

Dr James Betts, an expert in post-exercise rehydration at Bath University, said: "People think of alcohol as being a diuretic, but if you are already hydrated, a small amount of beer could be a way of getting the fluid in."

The best way of rehydrating after exercise was with a sports drink containing sugars, water and salt, he added.

Sorry I am just sick of people jumping up my ass on the board lately because they feel like they need to be in the know about every little thing that happens on the board when we all know if they were it would get so flippen boring they wouldnt read it all any way.

Just because they dont like the choices that I have to make or every statement I post doesnt mean I am wrong for doing so. Admins and mods are never going to please all of the people all of the time and I have better things to worry about then pleasing everyone.

Its not you just in general. Nothing personal

As someone before me once said, his wide range of acting ability holds sway over the great expanse of 'quirky, and slightly neurotic' and 'quirky, and slightly neurotic'.

Seinfeld...ehhhh, whatever. I haven't seen that guy in two billion years, so I can't really have an opinion one way or the other.

But, to go back to what that other guy was saying, I think I can do without having condensed Ben Stiller injected into my bloodstream for at least a *little* while.

Did anyone criticize how things were being administrated or moderated in this thread? I guess I missed that.

What happened was you tried to defend your statement against Spanish scientists by saying you were going to Mexico to be treated and people said, "Hey genius, Spain and Mexico are two different countries."

But if you drink beer after you work at, arn't you just immediately adding calories back on that you just burned, instead of drinking water and waiting the extra 15 minutes to rehydrate?
