View Full Version : Last Rights

Sparks flicker from the nearby light
as a man waits in silence, awaiting his last rights
he contemplates life and what he has done
and selfish endeavors that made this day come

The cell opens and enter the priest
carrying a bible and a final feast
he looks down on the man with contempt in his eyes
he claims he’s there to save him, but he lies
for in the priest’s heart he does despise
this fowl little man and the deeds he surmised

Along comes the warden, it’s time to go
his final walk, down a dark hallway
he has made it so;
his legs embark forward, regretfully they trudge
their eyes rest upon him, their judgement won’t budge

He is strapped to a chair and prepares to die
his actions so vile, and now he will fry
he lies in wait, but there won’t be a call
in an instant his soul will forcibly fall
and death will reign as a means to an end
an eternity in hell he will undoubtedly spend

Yet death isn’t avenged, it’s only worse
but the cycle continues, an ominous curse
and blindness by sorrow evades the culprit
as holier than thou is blared from the pulpit
and hypocrisy stands as a virtuous tool
for a society bent on power and rule
