Ebbertron

sealed or ported? what kind of subs?

TinkFu

What's the diff. between sealed and ported?

Ebbertron
10-10-2007, 12:39 PM
a sealed box doesnt have any air vents , typically making the subs "tighter". you dont get as much "boom" from a sealed box. a ported box is louder because it allows the sub to move more freely, but you sacrifice a little bit of sound quality.

so are you guys throwing a rayve then?

A.D

I already have 2 12" JL's.
I'm thinking ported, I have a sealed box right now, but (like tink) I don't really know what difference it makes.

for 6.5" components, Ive got Panasonic, JVC, Boss and Pioneer. it just depends on what youre trying to achieve.

if I was running two JL's, Id leave them in a sealed box just for the sound quality. JL's arent really good for deep thumping.

A.D

you kidding? jl's bump deeper than anything else I've ever heard.

I just meant that JL as a company is more geared towards sound quality, not so much about being the loudest. putting them in a vented box wouldnt be doing them any justice in my humble opinion, since the vented boxes tend to produce more distortion at louder levels.

how much for the pioneers?

A.D

hmm ok. I think an amp is mainly what I need, and a better made box. I've heard that one's with slight angles are better and mine's an exact rectangle. I also think it's homemade, which CAN be good, but this one isn't the best (imo).
so I guess maybe just tell me what sealed one's you have and pries

I have 2 6x9's that are just sitting in the back of my car just jimmy rigged and laying loose because my rear speakers are supposed to be like 4's and I don't want 4's.
So do you have any boxes or ceiling mount type of things for a 6x9? I've seen some sweet looking ceiling mounts before.

Ebbertron
10-23-2007, 01:41 PM
with shipping and everything for 2 of them would be $45

A.D
10-23-2007, 01:47 PM
Can you tell me what they look like? Would they just sit in the back or are they the type that hang from the ceiling?

Ebbertron
10-23-2007, 01:50 PM
they're grey carpeted boxes. I'll see if I can track you down some hanging ones, what did they look like?

Ebbertron
10-23-2007, 01:51 PM
