So being that I turn 25 in one month I will no longer be on my parents health insurance.
And being that the cost of my birth control will be going up I thought about getting and IUD. Its will save me a lot of money in the long run, but Im not 100% sure if I want to get one.
Any comments from females that have or had one would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry Im no woman however my ex used to use the IUD and swore by it. Also I dont know if there are any hormonal spikes during initial use or not but she seemed to not go through any major emotional changes.....and she was moody to start with. Either way I think its better than the shot.

I was told by my Gyno that it is a great idea, BUT if you ever plan on having children, wait on it. It can cause some complications in getting pregnant later in life. I know girls who love it. I also saw a friend go through a lot of pain and misery bacause she got an infection from it.

Well thank you both very much.
And I have no plans for offspring in the future, not even on my list of things to do right now.

Well I had massive problems with mine..... It gave me cysts, they have found now that it can add to problems such a cervical cancer and all kinds of other things. The hormone imbalances were hell as well. Horrible pms and it lasted longer.
It made my periods 3 times and heavy and pain full. I have a lot of scar tissue from the cysts and the leeps to remove the cancer spots. They almost had to take everything. I didnt want to go thru menopause at age 26......
There is a new one that my dr is talking to me about that has a very low dose of hormone that doesnt get into the blood stream only into your cervix. They actually put it into your cervix. But this one something like 83% of women dont even have periods or they are very light if they do.
I am debating on that one...... I cant get pregnant with my ms right now..... or for a while at least......
My dr said his 3 daughters have them and absolutely love them...... He is a really good friend and I trust his advice I am just nervous it might cause more problems....
i'm so glad i don't have these female-related problems.

Painful but worth it.
If you haven't had kids you are more likely to have problems. It might be hard to find a GYN that will give you one given no babies for JeNNer. If you have any other questions hit me up. I am now on my third IUD.

I agree. I had no babies and my Dr. let me get it. Most doctors are reluctant but she had one before she had her kids so she said it was cool. I am pretty sure it would have hurt less if I had popped out of kid first though.
It hurt really bad for 2 weeks then I got cramps. Now I get them for like 2-3 days a month they hurt but are worth not getting knocked up. No puriouds which rocks! :D Maybe spotting like 1 time every 3 months and that is for a day or 2? Talk about convenience!
It was the worst pain I have EVER felt, but worth it and I would do it again. I just got mine in November.
And I don't know if I ever want kids so yeah, they won't fix me yet this is my best option. You have to decide, but I am beyond happy with mine.

I'd also suggest to get the non-horomone IUD. They last longer and doesn't make you emotional.

Im pregnant, but I totally plan on getting an IUD afterwards. Everyone I know and trust that have one - love it. The only other things I have used besides the pill are the patch and the shot. I got prego on the patch - so I wouldnt recommend that. And the only reason the shot worked is because I was so ornery I wouldnt let anyone within a 3 foot radius of me. :2cents:
Good luck :)

I have the Mirena which is the one with the hormone not the copper one. I haven't had any problems with it. I don't have periods and no symptoms of a period. I've had it for 4 years.
The benefits of it it that it is just progesterone not estrogen.

I just found out that my body rejected my third IUD. I am going to have to find another option. My doctor told me Norplant came out with a new version. I might try that.

I got an IUD put in towards the begining of this year...and i freaking love it!!
Pros:
99.9% birth control garuntee
dont have to worry about taking something daily
lasts 5 years
cant feel it
very very very low hormone output, i noticed im hardly emo at all compared to wheni was on the pill.
well worth it
cons:
the actual putting it in is very uncomfy, if u have had an abortion the sensation is similiar to when the open the cervic, bleh
i had really painful cramps for a bout a week after
mild-medium cramps for a good month and a half after but since then no problems what so ever, i viewed it as 1.5 months of discomfort for a garunteed 5 years of not trippin about pregnancy
The kind i have was supposto stop my period, but it didnt, it actually made it so my cycle is 3 days every 35-45 days with a different bleeding pattern than before, but i think thats just me
all in all i am very very very pleased with my IUD and am very glad that i got it.

I JUST got one. I went with Para guard, which is non-hormonal and will last for 10 years. The Mirena is hormonal based and will last for 5 years, however, it can cause stroke, heart attack or……..weight gain. I am in a high stroke category because I suffer from migraine headaches.
The insertion was very painful, and afterwards I literally passed out. I had no idea it would hurt so bad. I have never given birth so my cervix was very tight. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. I took a Loritab before thank god, and even with that I was gripping the side of the bed and biting my bottom lip.
For the next 3 days I had MAJOR cramps. For the rest of the week or so, I experienced normal cramps.
It’s now been about 3 ½ weeks and I’m starting to get use to it. I don’t know if I would suggest it or not YET.
I really hope this works out. Not having to worry about birth control would ROCK.

******update********
saw my dr today, asked him why i still had my visits from aunt flow and he said that about 80% of the people who wear the 5year hormonal iud stop having their periods....lucky me, i was in the 20% who did...motherfucking aunt flo.....but i am still happy with my decision. :-)

I had so many problems with mine and its been out for like 6 years or something like that. All from the IUD I still have painful cysts. They are basically blisters on your overies that fill with toxins that your body has a hard time trying to get rid of so it has to try and reabsorb the toxins which isnt really healthy.
At least they start to go away after time.....

I got the Mirena, and I have lost weight. I have had it for a year, holy shit already damn.
I haven't had kids so yeah that shit hurt way more than I could have imagined but I still stick to my guns on it being worth it. It was the worst pain I have EVER felt though. It took about 2 and 1/2 months before I didn't feel it anymore. Someone should have told me to take a pain killer before I went. :(

lol ditto....
the pain of putting it is pretty intense, even for somone who has had kids, i would defaintly ask for some ib800's or even some tabs to help with the pain and the cramping that u will get afterwords, but in my opinion....worth it!

I took Ibu 800's for a week after, and I don't even take pain pills normally, I was desperate.
Jenner....There is a difference between pain :eyebrows: and pain :(. This is :( pain....but if you can handle it like :eyebrows: you are lucky.... I didn't even want to move for 2 weeks.

Oh noes you are gonna get knocked up....
Or not, and you can get it when you get insurance again.
I was lucky the insurance I had it was $20 copay for the office visit and everything else was covered. But now I don't have insurance again, what a bitch. Hopefully nothing goes wrong that would really suck.
