you need to CLEAN them!
Yeah, adjusting the weight might help. I usually keep mine in the middle.... make sure your needles and records aren't dirty... and i don't have an adjustable tone arm height thingy or the anti-skate shit so that's outta mah league.

crackling and popping means that
A. your records are dirtr OR
B. your records are old and getting worn out.
Go over them with an old t-shirt or something and see if that helps.

Go down to either mechanized, uprok, or guitar center and buy a can of whats called "Gruv Glide". Its a dj must if you value your high cost vinyl. Itsabout 30 bones but well worth it.

will give it a shot. none of my records are older than 6 months, but we'll see if that helps. thanks guys.
You might also try brushing off your needles, they might have dust gathered on them gathered from the records. I have a little brush that cleans them, but to be honest I don't know what it's called. I'm sure you can get one at mechanized too.

Yeah I wouldn't clean my records with anything other than Gruv Glide or some kind of cleaning product and your records are expensive enough that its worth the extra dollar to buy something to keep them clean. Really its normal for them to make those noises and if it is a bit excessive, its probably just static or their a bit dirty. What kind of needles do you have and how many grams of pressure do you have on them?
ortofon pro concorde. i'm not exactly sure how much pressure is on 'em, cuz both of my dials are broken (i think).

Those are Good needles so I doubt thats the problem and if it is.....You could get a new Stylus for em. I just barely upgraded to Ortofons also so I have no idea how much the replacement styli go for. I have about 2.5 grams of pressure on mine and I usually run my anti-skate at the same amount of pressure I have on the needles so their also at 2.5. If you plan on buying Gruv Glide I have a few extra cleaning pads so if you just buy a can of the spray instead of the kit, I'll hook you up with those and you can use the money you save to buy some more rekkids. :D
