I threw a new layout on my web page last night and I'm curious how it works on different browsers. If anyone has a minute could you take a look and let me know if the page seems to be holding together on your browser?
also, if you are so inclined you can critique the content/design.

That is Vemeer's 'Girl with a pearl ear ring.' She originally has a hat but I put a mohawk on her. I love Vermeer's use of lighting. He is one of my influences. However, I wanted to contrast it into modern society.
looks good in IE7 and IE8.
actually i lied. screen shot attached

Get rid of the ugly man/woman thing.

It works on Firefox for Linux. However, the Newest Additions links are kind of hard to read on top of that diagonal gray pin-striping.

hahaha I like the pointing tour!
also....not to be mean or anything, but, the new layout kinda sucks. however i also thought the one with the tire and street signs was the bomb diggity and i would even marry it if I could get the state to allow man / image weddings
Your old layouts have been pretty sweet for the most part, I'm definitely not digging this one
i like the content alot, galleries are cool, layout could use a little spice though.
i took some avatars...
they are for taking? ;)

Thanks for the feedback.
I guess I'll have to rethink the layout. Fortunately it's what I love to do.
Take the Avatars. It's all good.
Alright, I'll give a full critique now that I have time. Keep in mind I've loved some of your previous one's, so I hope you take critiques with a grain of sand. If not, don't read this, cause I honestly don't know how good/bad it's going to be yet.
Basically it's a buttfuck of random styles, all clashing against each other. The chick on the left is haunting and the blurry/grainy effect on her detracts from the rest of the site, the text overlay on her also is distracting. But mainly the look on her face, she could work in the site, just not in the position she's currently in. You have 3 different textures going on, 1 of them would really pop on the site, but having all of them on there is another thing that just doesn't let my eyes settle anywhere on the site. Slanted Stripes/the x's in the banner, and the dots in the top left bar.
what I think could happen and kind of keep the style:
make your main bar with the buttons skinner, it looks bulky and old. Get rid of the red/blue dots, they're not helping. The blue in the "newest additions" doesn't look right, have the stripes on the left start at the top with a dark blue background and slowly fade to the white, also they should extend to the very bottom. Your banner needs to be more fluid, the x's aren't working, although with changes they might, but having it white might be a killer. The stripes on the right aren't awesome, maybe don't let the right side fade to white, and flip it 180 so that the stripes are in the bottom right of the screen. You have art/media/downloads buttons twice, I'm sure you know this, but one of them needs to be decided on, I like the idea of having gold in the site. maybe make the buttons on the top alternate gold/blue. But also be the same width. Get rid of the chick for now, but I think she could make her way back in somehow
hope that helps. keep up the good work

I have been doing web design for 6 years now. I think it looks fine. It's an artsy site, not an ecommerce site or some government site.
Looks great.
Good job, keep it up.

I just have to say you're such an amazing artist Jake! There are so many of your paintings that I would buy and hang in my home.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
A.D. - thanks for the new asshole. :p Some of those things you mention sound a bit like errors. What browser are you using?
I do like how the feedback on this forum says that the Vermeer (girl) on the left is bad and all the designers at my firm say they like it. It's a love it or hate it response.
If you aren't familiar with the original see it here. (http://vermeer0708.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/vermeer20-20girl20with20a20pearl20earring201665.jp g) I love Vermeer's work.
That is the interesting thing about design. You either reach someone on an emotional level or you don't. There is no rules to follow, only suggestions, making it such a dynamic target to hit.
The website is just a hobby for me. I pretty much just make new layouts for it for fun. I'm a nerd.

Works fine on firefox for me. Gonna go with everyone else though, get rid of the chick, she is freaky and doesn't really fit. That's the first thing I thought of when I clicked on the site before reading anybody's replies.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
